Swimmers in warm open water at an UltraSwim 33.3 event in Greece

Open water swim events for masters swimmers: take your pool fitness further with UltraSwim 33.3

Pool swimmer new to the open water? You already have the technique and the training habit. UltraSwim 33.3 gives that fitness somewhere epic to go: the English Channel distance of 33.3km over four days in warm, iconic open water, with world class safety and a field of swimmers who train like you do. Trade the black line for a horizon and find out what your swimming is really for.

Experienced Masters open water swimmer? UltraSwim 33.3 provides a great opportunity to race, but in a format far more interesting and motivating than laps around a square, or out and back on the same line. Epic Adventure Swim Race says it all - a new format of open water swim racing that really appeal to Masters swimmers.

For masters swimmers

Why masters swimmers choose UltraSwim 33.3

Masters swimming gives you the stroke, the fitness and the discipline. What it might not give you is the reason to use it in the open water. UltraSwim 33.3 is that reason. Four days of 4 to 10km in warm open water turn pool speed into real open water endurance, the kind that carries you across the English Channel distance and makes you a 33.3'er. You will swim with people who train like you do, and so far has gone right up to 76 year olds, and you will find the group format pulls a stronger swimmer out of you than any solo session has. It is the most rewarding block you can add to your swimming year.

How the format works

THIS NEEDS CHANGING

This is not a training camp. It is four days in a warm water destination, swimming an iconic distance with a community of like minded swimmers, staying in a luxury spa hotel with everything organised. Many Masters swimmers return season after season and treat it as the highlight and main goal of their swimming year.

World class safety, every stroke

Open water can feel daunting after years following the black line of the pool. UltraSwim 33.3 takes the worry away. A large envelope of safety assets, with GPS tracking and on water feedstations, and a medical and physio team on site. You concentrate on the swimming while an experienced team looks after everything else.

Common questions

Common questions from masters swimmers+

No. A clear majority of swimmers at UltraSwim 33.3 events have never swum more than 5km in a single swim before they line up at the start. The four day format spreads the 33.3km into daily swims of 7 to 9km, with a 10km marathon swim on day three when you are at your strongest. The numbers sound intimidating. The format makes it possible.

How much does an UltraSwim 33.3 event cost+

All inclusive packages start from €1,800 and cover accommodation, world class safety, support and the full four day swim. A €500 deposit secures your place and is fully refundable within 30 days. Exact pricing is shown on each event page.

Can my partner come too+

Yes. Partners are welcome whether they swim or not. Non swimming partners join the trip as part of the package, with plenty to enjoy on shore while you are in the water, and everyone back together at each finish and over dinner.

How much time off work do I need+

Most swimmers allow around five to six days, the four day event plus travel either side. Many extend the trip to enjoy the location. Exact dates for each event are on the event pages.

Croatia 15 to 18 May. Milos Pioneer 29 May to 1 June. Switzerland 24 to 27 July. Greece (Skopelos) 18 to 21 September. Montenegro 2 to 5 October. Barcelona Compact 17 to 18 October. Nevis Caribbean Pioneer 2 to 5 December.

Is the free 17 week training plan enough to train for 33.3km?

Yes, for most Masters swimmers who already train three to four times a week. The programme builds your endurance progressively and takes you to 8km long swims before race week.
